How We Actually Test a Game Before Reviewing It

March 17, 2026 · Marta Kowalczyk

People sometimes ask how long we spend with a game before writing about it. The honest answer is: as long as it takes to have a real opinion, which is never less than a few evenings.

We run every title across at least two phones — one recent, one deliberately older and slower. That older phone catches things the flagship hides: stutters, faster battery drain, controls that lag under load. If a game only runs well on top hardware, that goes in the review.

We time battery drain during typical play, dig through every settings menu, and note how the game behaves when interrupted. Then whoever played it writes the draft and someone else who also played reads it back. Disagreements happen and they usually make the review better.

It's not glamorous. There's a lot of replaying levels and staring at battery percentages. But it's the only way we know how to earn the word 'verdict' in the name.
